Bengal Weather Update: Heatwave Likely To Sear South Bengal, North Could Get Rain

Bengal Heatwave News: South Bengal is likely to continue bearing the brunt of an intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to rise further. North Bengal, on the other hand, may get some rain.

There's no relief in sight from the scorching heat for South Bengal. The humidity and rising temperatures are expected to worsen across several districts, with a heatwave warning issued for parts of the region. Residents of North Bengal may, however, see some respite as thunderstorms and showers are forecast for the coming days.

An IMD bulletin on Wednesday read: "Heat Wave conditions (maximum temperature 40°C or more and above normal by ≥ 5°C) are likely to occur at one or two places with warm night conditions (maximum temperature 40°C or more and minimum temperature departure 4.5 °C to 6.4 °C) likely to occur at one or two places over Purulia, Jhargram, West Midnapore, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Bankura districts."

The heatwave conditions are likely to continue at least till April 26.

South Bengal Weather Update

Heatwave conditions are set to intensify in South Bengal, with temperatures likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in some areas over the next few days. Districts such as Bankura, Birbhum, and Paschim Medinipur are under a heatwave alert. The unbearable heat is expected to peak midweek, and the weather department has confirmed that there’s little to no chance of rain in the region at the moment. However, isolated thunderstorms (Kalbaishakhi) may occur in a few districts.

Kolkata is also reeling under the sweltering heat. As the day progresses, the discomfort level in the city continues to rise, with no immediate sign of rainfall. In fact, temperatures in Kolkata are likely to climb further, prolonging the current spell of heat.

North Bengal Weather Update

In contrast to South Bengal, North Bengal is likely to experience relatively cooler conditions. The weather department has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across several districts in the region throughout the week.

These weather systems are expected to bring much-needed relief from the heat. However, some areas may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
