BCCI Vice President Reacts To Bengaluru Stampede: 'It Was Not Anticipated'

10 people have been feared dead and several injured after a stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium when cricket fans have gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday reacted to the stampede outside the Bengaluru stadium over RCB victory celebration, saying the state government did not anticipate the stampede and took steps to prevent such a situation.

"Govt did stop the roadshow in order to avoid stampede or any such situation. But, it was not anticipated that a stampede would happen outside the stadium. Everybody should work together on the damage control," Rajeev Shukla said.

At least ten people have been feared dead and several injured after a stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium when cricket fans have gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory on Tuesday.

According to eyewitnesses, a stampede-like situation emerged as fans crowded the venue of the felicitation. Visuals showed police shifting the injured persons and those who fell unconscious in ambulances to nearby hospitals.

Visuals also showed some of those who were in an unconscious state being administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by those nearby. Police had a tough time in crowd management as a large number of cricket enthusiasts tried to gain entry, at the same time, into the stadium.

Police used mild force to control the crowd and bring the situation under control ahead of a special felicitation at the stadium for the RCB team organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
