Atleast 16 Arrested In Assam For ‘Pro-Pakistan’ Comments After Pahalgam Attack, CM Sarma Warns Of NSA Action

Following the Pahalgam attack, 16 individuals were arrested in Assam for making seditious remarks. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also warned of strict action against the accused.

Pahalgam Attack Updates: A total of 16 have been arrested in Assam for making ‘seditious comments’ in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X. Giving details about the recent arrests, the Assam CM said that Dadhichi Dimple alias Dimple Bora was arrested by Golaghat police, Tahib Ali arrested by Tamulpur police and Bimal Mahato arrested by Udalguri police.

"#Update on Crackdown against traitors- 12:00 hrs of 27 April 2025," he posted on X.

According to news agency PTI, Sarma has also warned that if required, these people would be booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

"There are no similarities between Bharat and Pakistan. The two countries are enemy nations and we must remain like that," Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of a programme at the state BJP office as quoted by news agency PTI.

He also said that a leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti was apprehended on Friday for his ‘anti-India comment' and warned that anyone who takes such a stance will be arrested.

"If required, we will impose provisions of NSA on them. We are examining all (social media) posts, and action will be taken against those who, we feel, are anti-national," the chief minister asserted.

Terrorists struck Baisaran, a prime tourist location in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring several others.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack will definitely get justice and asserted that  terrorists and conspirators behind the killings of 26 civilians will be served the harshest punishment. He said that the blood of every Indian is boiling by looking at the pictures of the attack He further said that the  country's unity and solidarity of its 140 crore citizens is its biggest strength in this war against terrorism.

The prime minister said the attack in the famous tourist town in Kashmir reflected the desperation and cowardice of the patrons of terrorism, a reference to Pakistan, at a time when peace was returning to the Valley and there was vibrancy in its schools and colleges.
