Opposition Thrown Out For 'Jai Bheem' Slogans, But BJP Shouting 'Modi Modi': Atishi

Atishi, AAP MLA from Kalkaji in Delhi, has alleged that the Opposition was thrown out of the assembly for chanting 'Jai Bhim', while BJP MLAs continued to chant 'Modi-Modi'.

Delhi Assembly news: Former Delhi CM Atishi, who is now the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, wrote to Speaker Vijendra Gupta on Friday, February 28. In her letter, she stated that injustice has been done to the opposition MLAs in the Assembly.

Atishi said in her letter, "The opposition was thrown out of the House for chanting 'Jai Bhim'. BJP MLAs kept chanting 'Modi-Modi', they were allowed to sit in the House. Stopping the opposition MLAs outside the assembly premises is an insult to democracy."

What Was Atishi's Complain?

Atishi wrote the letter to Speaker Vijendra Gupta a day after AAP MLAs were stopped from entering the Delhi Assembly premises. There has been continuous uproar in the House since the first day of the Delhi Assembly session. On the first day, there was an uproar over the alleged removal of portraits of Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi from the offices of BJP ministers and then, on the second day, during the L-G's address, AAP leaders protested on the floor, leading to the suspension of 21 MLAs.

When the AAP MLAs reached the Assembly on February 27, they were stopped at the gates by the police. On the objection of the Leader of the Opposition, Atishi, and the MLAs, the policemen deployed said that they had the Speaker's orders to stop them.

After this, Atishi and other AAP MLAs sat on a dharna at the gate of the Assembly building on Thursday. The dharna of AAP leaders continued till the end of the House proceedings on Thursday.

Atishi had said on Thursday that this decision of the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly is the first instance in the 75-year history of the country when MLAs had been stopped from entering the premises. This is an injustice to the AAP MLAs, she said.

The BJP responded saying earlier the saffron party's MLAs had been suspended for the entire session.
