Narrow Escape For 175 Passengers As Bird Hits IndiGo Flight Near Ranchi, Forces Emergency Landing

An IndiGo flight from Patna to Ranchi made an emergency landing after a bird strike damaged the Airbus A320. All 175 passengers were safe.

Around 175 passengers aboard an IndiGo flight had a narrow escape after the aircraft suffered a bird hit and was forced to make an emergency landing at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport on Monday, officials confirmed. “All the passengers and crew members are safe, while the Airbus A320 aircraft suffered damage,” said R R Maurya, Director of Birsa Munda Airport, to PTI.

The IndiGo flight was en route from Patna to Ranchi when it was hit by a bird, reportedly a vulture, at an altitude of approximately 3,000 to 4,000 feet and around 10 to 12 nautical miles from the Ranchi airport. “The pilot had to make an emergency landing here,” Maurya added. Engineers are currently assessing the extent of the damage, which left a visible dent on the aircraft. The incident occurred at 1:14 pm.

Another airport official said the aircraft, after arriving in Ranchi, was scheduled to continue on to Kolkata. IndiGo has not released any official statement on the incident.

Raipur To Delhi IndiGo Flight Encounters Severe Turbulence Due To Dust Storm

In a separate development, an IndiGo flight from Raipur to Delhi (Flight 6E 6313) encountered severe turbulence on Sunday due to a dust storm while approaching Delhi airport, news agency ANI reported. The pilot aborted the landing and climbed back after encountering wind speeds of up to 80 km/hr. The aircraft circled the airport multiple times before eventually landing safely. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

The turbulence was attributed to a dust storm that hit the national capital on Sunday, accompanied by strong winds and a spell of rain, particularly over the southern parts of Delhi.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains were caused by an east-southeastward-moving cloud cluster. The spell provided some relief from the intense heat, with maximum temperatures earlier in the day rising above 39°C. Safdarjung recorded 39.7°C, Ayanagar 39.5°C, Lodhi Road 39.4°C, and Palam 39.1°C.

The IMD has issued thunderstorm, lightning, and squall warnings for June 2–3 across multiple districts of Delhi, including South, South East, New Delhi, East, Central, Shahdara, and North East. Wind speeds could reach up to 80 kmph. Advisory alerts for possible light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning have also been issued for the South West, West, and North West districts.
