What Is ActBlue - The ‘Soros-Backed’ Platform Elon Musk Blamed For Tesla Protests

Musk’s active participation in his official role at DOGE in President Donald Trump's administration has been followed by several protests at or near Tesla showrooms in the US.

Elon Musk’s Tesla has been facing the brunt of multiple protests and even vandalisms at its showrooms. These incidents, ranging from arson to gunfire, have escalated post the billionaire taking an active role at the DOGE in US President Donald Trump’s administration.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) represents an initiative undertaken by the Trump government to keep a check on the efficiency of federal agencies and rid them of any ‘fraud or redundancies’. The department has implemented multiple measures to cut down federal spending, in turn, leading to mass layoffs and restructuring across the government agencies.

Musk’s active participation in the official role has been followed by several protests at or near Tesla showrooms in the US. On Saturday, six protesters were detained at a Tesla showroom in New York during a demonstration, reported The New York Post. As part of the protest, the individuals chanted slogans like ‘Nobody voted for Elon Musk’ and ‘Oligarchs out, democracy in’, the report said.

Musk Blames ActBlue For Protests

Musk took to social media and blamed certain Democratic donors for the ongoing protests. In a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the billionaire said, “An investigation has found 5 ActBlue-funded groups responsible for Tesla “protests”: Troublemakers, Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, Indivisible Project and Democratic Socialists of America.”

The Tesla CEO claimed that ActBlue funders include Reid Hoffman, Herbert Sandler, George Soros, Leah Hunt-Hendrix, and Patricia Bauman.

What Is ActBlue?

ActBlue is a fundraising platform used by Democratic candidates, progressive organisations, and left-leaning causes in the US. The platform provides a streamlined way for donors to directly contribute to several campaigns and initiatives.

Musk further said that the platform remained under investigation for permitting foreign and illegal donations in criminal violation of campaign finance regulations. He added that seven ActBlue senior officials resigned this week, including the associate general counsel.

The platform helps raise money for Democrats running for office at all levels of government. Notably, Democrats have for years said that ActBlue helped provide them an edge over Republicans by creating a trusted platform for donating. Set up in 2004, the portal said that it raised over $16 billion for Democratic candidates and causes since its founding.
