UIDAI Extends Free Aadhaar Card Update Deadline To This Date; Check Details Here

Aadhaar is a distinctive identification number assigned to each resident, and its uniqueness is ensured by linking it to their individual biometric data

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension for the period during which citizens can update their Aadhaar card details free of charge. The new deadline for this complimentary update service is December 14, 2024.

UIDAI has been actively encouraging individuals to review and, if necessary, update their Aadhaar card information. This suggestion is mainly directed at those who obtained their Aadhaar cards more than a decade ago and may not have updated their details since then. However, it is important to note that while UIDAI strongly recommends reviewing and updating Aadhaar information, it is not mandatory.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI wrote, "UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th December 2024; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar."

Aadhaar is a distinctive identification number assigned to each resident, and its uniqueness is ensured by linking it to their individual biometric data. This system effectively prevents the issuance of duplicate numbers and helps identify and eliminate fraudulent or fictitious identities, which are major sources of leakage in various systems today.

How To Upload Address Proof For Aadhaar

You can submit proof of your address either online via the MyAadhaar portal or by visiting any Aadhaar centre. Below is a detailed step-by-step guide for submitting your documents online:

Visit the MyAadhaar Portal: Go to [https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/](https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/).

Log In and Verify Details: Log in to your account and verify the details, such as your name, gender, date of birth, and address update.

Update Address: Click on the option to update your address. Make sure to tick the consent box to proceed, then select 'Update Aadhaar Online'.

Upload Address Proof: Upload a scanned copy of your address proof in the required format and provide the necessary consent.

Service Request Number (SRN): After submission, a service request number (SRN) will be generated. Save this number to track the status of your update.

How To Add Or Update Your Mobile Number In Aadhaar:

To add or update your mobile number in Aadhaar, you need to visit an Aadhaar enrollment centre in person. This specific update cannot be completed online through the portal, which only allows for address and document updates.

You do not need to provide any documents for the mobile number update. However, the Aadhaar holder must be present for biometric authentication. The fee for updating the mobile number is Rs 50 per request, which covers one or multiple demographic updates.

What Happens If You Miss The Deadline?

If you miss the December 14 deadline, you will be required to pay a fee of Rs 50 to update your Aadhaar details. Currently, you can make changes without any cost, so it is advisable to take advantage of this opportunity and complete any updates before the deadline.
