With only five days left, residents who haven’t yet availed this facility should act quickly. After the deadline, users will be required to pay a fee of Rs 50 for updates.
The free update option is applicable only through the myAadhaar portal. Users can log in online to update their documents and demographic details like name, address, and date of birth. However, updates involving biometric information, such as fingerprints or iris scans—must be done at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra and are not covered under the free service.
Deadline Extended Once, Unlikely to Change Again
This is not the first extension granted by UIDAI. Initially, the free update facility was scheduled to end on December 14, 2024. But in a bid to allow more people to update their Aadhaar records, the deadline was pushed forward by six months to June 14, 2025. With this extension nearing its end, there appears to be little likelihood of another extension.
Those who enrolled for Aadhaar more than a decade ago are especially advised to refresh their details. If you made your Aadhaar card 10 years ago or earlier, then it is crucial that you update your address, mobile number, and other details. And if you want to avail the free service, then it is advised that you complete this work before June 14.

Aadhaar is a unique number that is given to every Indian resident based on his biometric information (such as fingerprint and eye scan). Its biggest advantage is that a person cannot get more than one Aadhaar, which makes it difficult to create a fake or duplicate identity.
The system enables the government to efficiently deliver welfare benefits while reducing the risk of fraud. Individuals without a valid Aadhaar may find themselves excluded from various public schemes. This helps the government to ensure that only the eligible people get the benefits of government schemes. If someone does not have an Aadhaar or is using a fake Aadhaar, he may have to be deprived of many government facilities.
Step-by-Step Guide to Update Aadhaar for Free
1. Visit the official UIDAI site: https://uidai.gov.in
2. Go to the ‘My Aadhaar’ section and click on ‘Update Your Aadhaar’
3. On the next page, select ‘Update Aadhaar Details (Online)’ and then ‘Document Update’
4. Enter your Aadhaar number and the CAPTCHA, then click ‘Send OTP’
5. Input the OTP sent to your registered mobile number
6. Choose the field(s) you wish to update—name, address, date of birth, etc.
7. Enter the revised information and upload supporting documents
8. Submit the request. You’ll receive a URN (Update Request Number) by SMS, which can be used to track your update status
With the deadline fast approaching, residents are encouraged to review and refresh their Aadhaar data to avoid paying the update fee post-June 14.
