Disgusting: Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Slams BBMP For Not Cleaning Garbage Heaps On Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road
The executive chairperson and founder of Biocon expressed her dismay in response to a video posted by a user showcasing a lengthy segment of Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road enveloped in heaps of trash
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw criticised the solid waste management department of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for failing to effectively clear garbage accumulation on the city's streets. The executive chairperson and founder of Biocon expressed her dismay in response to a video posted by a user showcasing a lengthy segment of Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road enveloped in heaps of trash.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mazumdar called the pile of garbage “disgusting shit” and criticised the authorities for not doing their work correctly. “Disgusting sight. @BBMPSWMSplComm needs to act swiftly to clean up this ugly mess,” she wrote in a social media post on Tuesday.

Several other Bengaluru residents came forward in the comment section to share their similar experiences in India’s Silicon Valley. One user shared a video in the comment section and wrote, “Yes this is next to the same road.. even more shameful is most of the expats, consulates, ministers, even BBMP top officers stay in this locality and they take this route everyday! We are not only letting our city down we are also letting our nation down by displaying such filthy habits . Long back I myself took this initiative to clean up the are at my own cost and also informed locality and offices to atleast continue to maintain or bring some action to stop this mess people dumping garbage on the roads.. nothing changed habit continues.”
Another user wrote about the lack of garbage disposal bins, leading to this kind of situation on the roads. “This is the tragic scenario in every tier 1 and tier 2 cities. There are NO public trash bins, so people will throw the garbage wherever they feel like. Unless civic bodies install, insist on using, and maintain the #publictrashbins this will continue. @mysurucitycorp,” the user wrote.

“Sadly entire Bengaluru is like this even the residential areas which used to be kept clean by removing the garbage regularly has changed. Only residents who pay the BBMP pourakarmikas for Kapi thindi get that favour from them,” added a third user.
