Fired For Taking Leave? Reddit User's Claim Stirs Debate Online
The user expressed concern in his post that without an experience letter, his current salary structure— which had been increased by 200 per cent could be negatively affected while job-hunting

A post on the social media platform, Reddit has sparked a discussion after the user alleged that his company terminated him during his notice period for taking a leave. In a post titled "Company terminated me after I took a leave in my notice period," the user said that he had resigned just two months after joining due to a firm having a "toxic" work environment.
He also claimed that his employer was forcing him to work overtime.
During his notice period, the user took a few days off, but HR informed him that the company had decided to terminate his employment. He was also told that he would not be provided with a relieving letter or experience certificate.
The user expressed concern in his post, mentioning that without an experience letter, his current salary structure— which had been increased by 200 per cent compared to his previous job— could be negatively affected while job hunting.
“Basically, I was on notice period in this company I joined 2 months ago (put papers because of the toxic environment - making me do unpaid overwork) and after I took a couple of leaves during the notice period, the HR called to tell me that the company has decided to terminate me and that they will not be providing any relieving letter etc. Is there anything I can do to get that experience letter as they had provided me a hike on my previous salary by 200 per cent and without this, my current CTC would go down significantly and hurt me while job hunting. What actions can I take? Should I take?” the Reddit user said.
A debate sparked in the comments section of the Reddit user’s now-viral post, with a mix of opinions.
Some users recommended he get the termination in writing and consult a lawyer, while others cautioned against lying to future employers about the situation and emphasised the importance of having written documentation.
“Happened to my colleague. Don’t lie about this to your next employer. Get this in writing. Don’t worry about spending 50k on a really good lawyer. Please get a lawyer,” one user wrote.
