A Bengaluru couple landed themselves in trouble with a Facebook video. The matter emerged when Sagar Gurung, 37, and his wife, Urmila Kumari, 38, were taken into custody by Bengaluru police after accidentally revealing two ganja (marijuana) plants growing in their balcony.

The couple, coming from Namchi, Sikkim, live in MSR Nagar in Bengaluru. In their video on social media on October 18, they shared a video of their life including their balcony which includes many plants, reported Moneycontrol.

Amongst these plants, Netizens found out two marijuana plants growing in their home. The police acted on online discussions sparked by the video and conducted a raid on their residence on November 5.

Initially, the couple was uncooperative and refused to answer questions about the saplings. However, officers found out that two empty flower pots and deduced it to be evidence of the plants being removed in a hurry.

Eventually, the couple admitted to growing marijuana and officers found a dustbin where the duo tried to dispose the plants. As a result, the officers seized nearly 54 grams of cannabis and 17 flower pots, with two confirmed to include marijuana.

Now, the authorities are investigating if the plants were grown for sale, as against personal use. They also suspect that relatives might have tipped off Urmila and given her time to attempt hiding the plants.

The video was uploaded from Urmila’s mobile phone, therefore, her phone was also seized. The police have since been looking into the device to find any digital traces of a larger network or additional buyers.
