Volkswagen Taigun Launched In India At Rs 10.49 Lakh — Check Features, Specifications & More

Unlike rivals, Volkswagen is not offering any standard naturally aspirated petrol as it is only with turbocharged units.

New Delhi: Volkswagen has finally launched its awaited compact SUV, the Taigun. It is the first made for India SUV and is also based on the new MQB A0 IN platform. Launched with two petrol engines, the Taigun range starts at Rs 10.49  lakh for the 1.0 TSI petrol while the 1.5 TSI petrol GT with the manual gearbox starts from Rs 14.99 lakh.

The fully loaded GT with the 7-speed DSG version is priced at Rs 17.49 lakh. The Taigun would be the first SUV for Volkswagen in this segment while slotting below the T-Roc. In design terms, the Taigun is proper Volkswagen but gets touches like chrome treatment at the front along with a full-length light bar which is something unique for its class. The design of the interior follows a sporty look with silver accents.

Engines

Unlike rivals, Volkswagen is not offering any standard naturally aspirated petrol as it is only with turbocharged units. The 1.0 TSI makes 115hp and comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic as an option along with a 6-speed manual as standard. The 1.5 TSI meanwhile is more powerful and comes with 150hp and 250Nm while it also has either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. The 1.5 TSI is amongst the most powerful engines in its class and is aimed at enthusiasts as our review has said.

Features

The Taigun gets a 10inch touch screen and a digital instrument cluster amongst other features like 17inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting, touch-based ac controls, rearview camera, wireless smartphone connectivity, Type-C USB ports, 6 airbags, 3 head-restraints at the rear, sunroof and connected car technology, etc. In terms of features, the Taigun competes head-on with its rivals while the DSG version brings in the added feature of paddle shifters too.

Rivals

The Taigun competes in the highly popular compact SUV space with the likes of its own sibling, the Skoda Kushaq as competition plus the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos while the upcoming MG Astor is also a rival. The Taigun aims to be a sporty compact SUV and slot in this competitive marketplace.
