Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV Is A Boxy People Mover With Links To Fortuner

This rather interesting looking SUV is a Toyota for Indonesia called the HiLux Rangga. It is based on the Toyota HiLux Champ, which is an affordable pick-up. With a ladder frame chassis, this boxy SUV looks odd from some angles but comes with a 2 plus 3 plus 2 seating configuration.

 

This pick-up also shares the same platform with the Crysta and the Fortuner which means it is rugged and durable while this is a cost effective people mover of sorts. There is space inside but the focus here is on affordable motoring with less focus on luxuries but the Hilux Rangga SUV does get basics like dual airbags, touchscreen and LED headlamps.

This is an interesting car since it is a people mover based on an affordable pick-up. But, the shared platform with rugged offerings known for their reliability like the Fortuner and Innova means it is built for tougher terrain but carrying more passengers. It does not get 4x4 though due to the cost but has RWD while the ground clearance is pretty good.

 

Engine options include a naturally aspirated petrol and a diesel powertrain. This is for the Indonesian market and wont make it here but the interesting product details makes it a rival to the Mahindra Bolero Neo of sorts. Toyota in India does not have an affordable ladder frame SUV since it has the Taisor and the Hyryder which are developed with Maruti while something like this would work in our market but the boxy styling is something our market might not accept!
