While the big flagship Range Rover is perhaps the most important car in the Land Rover line-up, the Range Rover Sport sits slightly below but in terms of sales, has greater significance and perhaps is crucial to Land Rover the most. It has the Range Rover brand but is aimed as a more driver focussed or a sportier alternative along with coming at a much lower price. This is the new generation Range Rover Sport and sits on the same new platform as the big Range Rover along with getting many of its technologies.

We had a close look at the car and the new Range Rover Sport does look quite attractive especially in this colour. The design is sportier and comparatively sleek when compared to the earlier Range Rover Sport while it follows the clean design ethos of the current Range Rover. You will see flush door handles, smoother lines with less fussy detailing and slimmer digital headlamps along with LED tail-lights.

Along with the exterior, the interior also represents a massive leap forward and it is closer to the bigger Range Rover even more now. There is a large curved touchscreen similar to the bigger Range Rover while also getting a detailed digital instrument cluster. As you might expect, the cabin feels luxurious and you get the option of getting the cabin trimmed in various materials too including non-leather upholstery wool-blend textile.

It also gets high-end features like upto 29-speakers with its Meridian 3D audio system, full length panoramic sunroof, 13.1-inch touchscreen and lots more. The rear seat has a recline option for the first time and the seats are much more spacious when compared to the earlier Range Rover Sport but of course not having the same features as the flagship Range Rover. But, compared to immediate rivals, the Range Rover Sport has a spacious rear seat for sure.

Land Rover has streamlined the Range Rover Sport line-up with 3.0l mild hybrid diesel and petrol units with its trademark Terrain Response 2 4x4 system getting even more technology. There is standard air suspension with a 48-volt electronic active roll control system, All-Wheel Steering, Torque Vectoring by Braking and more. All-wheel steering is an option though.

One new feature is the Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control which makes its debut in the Range Rover Sport where you can navigate through rough terrain at steady speeds and the driver needs to focus only on the steering.

The new Range Rover Sport starts at Rs 1.6 cr while going till Rs 1.8 cr. That is a significant jump when compared to the previous generation Range Rover Sport although it came with a smaller engine. While expensive when compared to rivals, the Range Rover Sport now has a lot more going for it with the new looks, features along with the usual Land Rover off-road DNA. It is also great value when compared to the full sized Range Rover which also has moved significantly higher in terms of being a flagship luxury car.
