Nissan Magnite Facelift: Old Vs New

You also get some added features like auto headlamps, auto dimming IRVM, type C charging port, air purifier and a new key fob with remote start which lets you start the car from 60 meters

The Magnite has been a consistent seller for Nissan India mainly due to its looks, affordable pricing and the driving experience. We have had the previous Magnite on a long term test and it faired well in account of its durability plus the peppy turbo motor. Now, Nissan has updated the Magnite and we have driven it to see what changes does it make.

Does it look better?

The new Magnite does look better while it is a shape which has been around for four years but it is a design that has aged well. There is a larger grille now which connects with the headlamps while the new skid plate makes it look more muscular. The basic look is the same but just about gives the impression it is a new car. There are new alloys, a new colour and updated tail lamps but that's about it.

Does the interior feel new?

We think the interiors are a bigger change and it feels less plasticky than the all black earlier interior. Quality is better and the dualtone black plus copper theme does lift the ambiance. The dual tone leatherette upholstery in particular looks more premium. The door pads also have a copper theme while there is an updated instrument cluster too. You also get some added features like auto headlamps, auto dimming IRVM, type C charging port, ambient lighting, 3D Arkamys audio, air purifier and a new key fob with remote start which lets you start the car from 60 meters. Features like a 360 degree camera, climate control etc remain while it gets six airbags, ESC too along with seatbelt reminders. That said, there is no sunroof or cooled seats but the seat fabrics are supposed to cool down the cabin more.

Does it drive better?

There is no change mechanically which means the Turbo with its 100bhp motor is the one to get over the cheaper naturally aspirated motor. The turbo engine has some vibrations at start but settles down. The CVT gearbox is responsive and it feels quick with plenty of power along with its compact size. We recommend the CVT for its smoothness over the manual too. Other elements remain the same including the good ground clearance while the low speed ride is a bit unsettled.

Is it better value now?

Base variants are the same and that is good news as Nissan has not increased the prices so much. Top-end Magnite also has a marginal price hike. Now the Magnite in its new avatar is much better with fresher looks, a better interior and a bit more equipment. It still misses out on some features but the price and the value for money make it a convincing buy due to its CVT gearbox and the turbo plus the looks. We think as an affordable automatic SUV, the Magnite ticks a few crucial boxes.
