New Maruti Baleno vs Swift AMT: Know Which Is Better Equipped, More Powerful

With Baleno and Swift giving tough competition to each other, know which one is best suited for you.

There has always been a rivalry between Baleno and  Swift in terms of sales numbers and the brand image that both cars have. The Swift has become an iconic brand and always sells in huge numbers but the Baleno has given it tough competition plus with the new version launched yesterday with an AMT, should be considering a Baleno AMT over the lesser-priced Swift? We tell you.

Which is bigger?

Obviously the Baleno is bigger but not by a huge margin. The Baleno has a length of 3,990 mm while the Swift has a length of 3845mm. The Baleno is also wider with a width of 1745mm vs 1735mm of the Swift. The Baleno gets a new look while also getting 16inch wheels while the Swift gets 15inch ones.

Which is better equipped?

The Baleno wins this easily as now it gets features like a new 9inch touchscreen with a new infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, rear ac vents, heads-up display, 6 airbags, connected tech, and more. The Swift matches the Baleno with LED headlamps, auto climate control, a touchscreen but it has the older touchscreen along with a simple rearview camera. It misses out on rear ac vents also.

Which is more powerful?

Here things turn to the Swift with both cars getting a dual jet 1.2l petrol with 90hp of power. The Swift being lighter has more performance but the Baleno is also expected to be quite quick since it is light too. Both cars use the same platform. Both cars also use a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and a 5-speed AMT as optional.

Which is more efficient?

It is a close flight in terms of efficiency but the lighter Swift is a bit more efficient at 23.76 kmpl for the AMT and 22.94 kmpl for the Baleno AMT. That said both cars here have brilliant mileage figures and are amongst the most efficient cars in its class.

Which car to buy?

The Swift is priced between Rs 5.9 lakh to Rs 8.77 lakh while the Baleno is priced from Rs 6.3 lakh to 9.4 lakh. The Swift is cheaper and will offer more performance/mileage due to being lighter but the Baleno offers more space, more features and the price difference is not so much. We feel the Baleno AMT is the more value option.
