Mercedes-Benz Launches New 7-Seater SUVs GLB And EQB

Both EQB and GLB get foldable second and third-row seats with boot capacity of up to 1620 litres and 1680 litres.

New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz has introduced new 7-seater SUVs in India called GLB and EQB. The EQB is also the first electric 7-seater luxury SUV in India. The GLB meanwhile comes with diesel and petrol engines.

With this Mercedes-Benz has the largest SUV range in India while the EQB in particular will increase the appeal amongst EV buyers. Both EQB and GLB get foldable second and third-row seats with boot capacity of up to 1620 litres and 1680 litres.

Talking about the EQB electric SUV, the battery pack is a 66.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and has a WLTP certified range of 423 km. In terms of power, the EQB has a twin motor layout with all wheel drive along with up-to 228bhp.

The GLB on the other hand come in either GLB 200 and GLB 22od forms with 4 cylinder engines. The diesel has an 8-speed automatic while the petrol gets a 7-speed.

Interestingly, both SUvs are full imports being CBUs. Lets talk pricing and here the EQB has its own niche with no other electric luxury SUV at this price point or having 7-seats while the GLB too does not have many rivals with 7-seats at this segment space.

Pricing for GLB 200 is INR 63.8 Lakhs, GLB 220d is INR 66.8 Lakhs, GLB 220d 4MATIC is INR 69.8 Lakhs and EQB 300 4MATIC is INR 74.5 Lakhs (all India ex-showroom prices).

The EQB will come with a complimentary AC Wallbox Charger while Mercedes-Benz already installed 30 Ultra-Fast Chargers (180 / 60 kWh). While EVs typically come with an 8-year battery warranty, the GLB diesel and petrol too come with an 8-year engine warranty as well. Mercedes-Benz hopes to satiate demand for its luxury cars and also fill gaps in the market while already having a vast luxury SUV portfolio.

The carmaker has already launched other EVs in India like the recent EQS luxury sedan.
