Maruti Jimny Launch In May As Showroom Display Begins, Set To Compete With Mahindra Thar

The Jimny was first shown in its 5-door form at the Auto Expo and now ahead of its launch, the showroom display has begun. The Jimny 5-door has now been displayed across Nexa showrooms with phased displays.
The Jimny in its 5-door form will be launched in April and the SUV has already gathered a good number of bookings. Deliveries of the Jimny will begin shortly after launch and would be around May end. The Jimny will come with a 1.5l petrol engine and will get two gearbox options- a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic while it will get a proper 4x4 gearbox.
The SUV will get the AllGrip Pro 4WD system with proper off-road use in mind. In terms of variants, the Jimny will come in Zeta and Alpha trims with Alpha seeing the most demand since it is the better-equipped variant. The Jimny will be joining the increasing Nexa line-up and would be part of the premium end from Maruti along with the Grand Vitara as well.

The Nexa sales outlets already have the best-selling Baleno premium hatchback while the Jimny, as well as the Fronx, will further increase the product line-up available with the Nexa showrooms.
With the market launch and pricing being started in May, the order bank is already quite large while the pricing will of course decide the popularity of the car. The 4x4 segment has increased and the Jimny will compete with the likes of the Mahindra Thar even though the Thar comes in 3-door form only with Mahindra planning a 5-door version in the near future.
The Jimny price wise would be positioned below the Grand Vitara in the Nexa range with the pricing being in the region of Rs 11-18 lakh.
