New Delhi: We had earlier written about how Hyundai is planning to bring more electric cars into India and the first of the new wave of electric cars has been announced in the form of the Ioniq 5 electric SUV. This would be a premium SUV which is pure electric with a launch around the second half of this year. In this quick first look we tell you what you need to know about the Ioniq 5.
The Ioniq 5 is based on the new E-GMP platform for electric cars for Hyundai hence shares no connection with the other petrol/diesel cars. It is a big SUV but is shaped like an interesting crossover especially its pixelated headlamps having DRLs. There are flush door handles and massive 20inch wheels as well.
The interior is also unique as it is designed differently from other Hyundai cars. The car has a flat floor for more legroom and has a huge 3,000 mm wheelbase. The centre console also slides forward/backward for more space. Most of the interior is made up of environmentally friendly materials like PET bottles, plant-based yarns and natural wool yarns, eco-processed leather with plant-based extracts, and bio paint with plant extracts.
The Ioniq 5 will come with 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh battery packs with AWD or rear motor only. The rear motor only can deliver upto 500km range. The Ioniq 5 has vehicle to vehicle charging option too along with usual fast AC/DC chargers. It is also the first Hyundai to get an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display.
The Ioniq 5 would be a premium product and would be priced at a premium at around Rs 40 lakh estimated.
