ABP Live Auto Awards 2022 – Premium SUV Of The Year: Compared to the earlier Tucson, the new generation model is a lot more attractive, and also amongst other SUVs, the styling stood out.
The 2022 Premium SUV of the year goes to Hyundai's new Tucson amidst an avalanche of new launches. The premium SUV space has exploded in the past year with various entrants occupying the Rs 20-40 lakh space.
The new generation Tucson though managed to fend off tough competition with its combination of features, looks, and performance. It starts with the styling which shows the new design philosophy for Hyundai cars. The 'Parametric' grille conceals the LEDs which are hidden while the headlamps are below. This adds to the premium factor and elevates the presence of the new Tucson. The side profile meanwhile has a muscular stance but the gently tapering chrome line hints at a coupe-like design. Compared to the earlier Tucson, the new generation model is a lot more attractive, and also amongst other SUVs, the styling stood out.
We noted the fact that India gets the long wheelbase version which further adds space while the interiors were also one of the factors that clinched this award. The premium SUV space has buyers who are looking at an upgrade hence, wanting a lot more features and comfort. The new Tucson does get a premium-looking cabin with continuous air vents and a classy look with a massive gloss touch panel. The instrument cluster is also neatly integrated with no cowl. The position of the switchgear in the design won crucial marks for its simplicity.
In terms of features, the new Tucson stood ahead with its long equipment list including an all-around 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor, heated and cooled seats, drive modes, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and more. That said, the ADAS suite of features which have been tuned for our conditions further tilted things in its favour since its suite of radar-assisted features works well for our conditions instead of being too intrusive.
The Tucson gets both diesel and petrol with automatic as standard but the diesel has AWD capability too which gives the versatility that a premium SUV should have. In short, the new Tucson gives a premium feel with its overall experience and that is why it is our winner for this category.
