PRIYANKA REACTS: “No Misbehavior With Speaker,” Says Congress Leader

The political temperature in Parliament has escalated after a video dated February 4 surfaced, allegedly showing Opposition MPs inside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s chamber during a protest. The video was released by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who questioned the conduct of Opposition members and accused them of using abusive language and issuing threats. According to Rijiju and other ruling party leaders, several Congress MPs entered the Speaker’s chamber during the uproar in the House. They allege that abusive language was used in the presence of senior leaders including Priyanka Gandhi and K.C. Venugopal, and that threats were made regarding the Prime Minister’s presence in the House. Rijiju claimed the government exercised restraint despite provocation. However, Priyanka Gandhi has strongly denied the allegations, stating that no one misbehaved with the Speaker. She accused the government of attempting to divert attention from pressing national issues. Congress leaders maintain that while some MPs expressed anger, there was no abusive conduct toward the Speaker. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale also commented, stating that MPs have the right to meet the Speaker but alleged that threatening or abusing the Speaker is unprecedented and unacceptable. Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has moved a substantive motion seeking the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership, accusing him of anti-national conduct and foreign associations. Dubey has demanded not only disqualification but also a lifetime ban from contesting elections. The Congress party has dismissed the move, asserting that Rahul Gandhi is not intimidated. Party leaders allege that Dubey is targeting Gandhi for political gain and ministerial aspirations, accusing the BJP of avoiding discussions on unemployment and economic concerns.
