In a unique initiative, the Transit Treatment Centre which provides specialised treatment to wild animals in Nagpur has opened a paediatric ward. This is the first such exclusive ward for treatment of young wild animals in India. With a specialised ward, officials say, the recovery of the injured or animals suffering from any kind of illness is faster. According to officials, the paediatric ward has a success rate of close to 70 per cent. After treatment, while the off springs of small animals are released into the wild, those who belong to families of large animals are sent either to rescue centres or a zoo.
