Monsoon Chaos Hits North India, Cloudbursts Disrupt Jammu and Kashmir Roads | ABP News
On Sunday, north India faced continued monsoon disruptions, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. A cloudburst in Ganderbal district severely damaged a road, leading to the closure of the crucial Srinagar-Leh national highway. Additionally, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumuri (SSG) road near Padawbal has been blocked due to mud accumulation from an overflowed canal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning over Jammu and Kashmir throughout the week. According to PTI, traffic on the Srinagar-Leh road has been halted until further notice due to road damage in Kacherwan, Ganderbal district, with road clearance operations in progress. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall for Sunday. Additionally, a yellow alert is in place for Himachal Pradesh until August 7, as it continues to evaluate damage from recent flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in three districts. The death toll from these cloudbursts has risen to nine, with 45 individuals still reported missing.
