Maha Dangal: Fierce Row Over Voter Purge In Bihar: BLO Threats, NRC Allegations, Opposition Targets EC-BJP

Bihar’s political climate is heating up as nearly 35 lakh voter names have been removed from the rolls, triggering massive backlash from opposition parties. VIP leader Mukesh Sahani sparked outrage by threatening violence, saying that "BLOs’ homes will be burnt" if voters’ names are unfairly deleted. He accused the Election Commission and BJP-led central government of conspiring to disenfranchise the poor and migrants, especially from Seemanchal.BJP leader Zafar Islam hit back, calling Sahani's language criminal and asserting that the EC is only removing names of the deceased, migrants, and duplicate entries. He emphasized that no non-citizen has a right to vote and claimed such voter list cleanups are essential for fair elections. As AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi warned of NRC-like tactics in Bihar, questions arise over the legitimacy and timing of the voter revision. Allegations claim that BLOs are avoiding fieldwork, instead submitting forms themselves, while many genuine voters are struggling with documentation.Opposition parties argue that the poor, especially migrant laborers, are being unfairly targeted. Meanwhile, the EC defends the drive as necessary and legal. With November elections looming, the controversy raises concerns over political intent, voter suppression, and administrative readiness.
