Janhit: Opposition Protests Against Alleged Voter List Manipulation in India | ABP NEWS

On August 11, opposition parties, led by Congress and other major groups, staged a massive protest against alleged vote manipulation under the banner of “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) in voter lists. The opposition marched from Parliament’s Makar Dwar to the Election Commission’s office demanding transparency and fairness in the electoral rolls, accusing the government of “vote theft.” The protest saw prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav detained by police before they could meet the Election Commission. Despite attempts to negotiate, the Commission allowed only a 30-member delegation, but over 200 MPs turned up, leading to a standoff. The opposition highlighted issues such as removal of valid voters and inclusion of fake names, demanding a clean voter list. The Election Commission has refuted these allegations, urging the opposition to submit sworn affidavits if they truly believe voter fraud has occurred. Data from Bihar’s recent SIR shows millions of names removed due to deaths, migration, or duplication, with a month-long window for complaints, yet no major grievances have been reported. The protest disrupted parliamentary proceedings, with the government accusing opposition of wasting time and politicizing the issue. The debate on electoral integrity continues to intensify as India approaches its next elections.
