The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea seeking President’s Rule in West Bengal, citing ongoing violence in the state. The petitioner has filed a fresh application under an already pending 2021 case, urging the court to direct the Centre to seek a report from the Governor under Article 355 of the Constitution. The plea highlights the deteriorating law and order situation as a threat to constitutional machinery. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has demanded separate polling booths for Hindus in areas where their population is less than 50%, citing targeted violence. His statement has sparked a political storm, with the TMC accusing the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to disturb Bengal’s peace. Union Minister Anurag Thakur also criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she appears to be a “supporter of rioters” rather than a leader. The controversy has intensified communal and political tensions in the state.
