Heavy monsoon rains have unleashed widespread destruction across the Himalayan region, with Kargil witnessing a devastating cloudburst today. The sudden deluge caused severe flooding in Khahosh Suru Maitha Khos village, washing away the central span of a bridge while leaving its ends intact. The powerful current destroyed structures and left residents stranded. Nearby areas along the river also suffered massive damage.In Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, a major chunk of a hillside collapsed onto the road, captured live on video by bystanders. In Chamba, a speeding boulder pierced through the roof of a private bus, injuring two to three passengers. Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district reported livestock being swept away in strong currents.Shimla faced its own crisis when weakened soil from persistent rains caused multiple trees to crash onto parked cars near the bus stand, leaving vehicles mangled. Rescue teams used cranes to retrieve stranded vehicles from nearby regions.Elsewhere, incidents unrelated to the weather made headlines — in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, thieves targeted a retired judge’s home, while in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, a traffic cop confronted a BJP MLC’s son over illegal parking, sparking a heated roadside altercation.
