Breaking: 8 Days After Ahmedabad Plane Crash, Black Box Still Unopened, Investigation Faces Delays | ABP NEWS
8 days after the tragic Air India flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, which claimed 270 lives, the official investigation remains stalled. Despite the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) retrieving both black boxes on the night of the crash, they are yet to be opened. The reason behind the delay remains unclear, raising serious questions about accountability and transparency. The AAIB, which reports to India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, is the sole agency responsible for investigating such accidents. According to reports, a critical delay in deciding whether to retrieve the chip from the black box domestically or send it abroad—possibly to the US, UK, or Singapore—has hindered progress. Speculation about damage to one of the black boxes has further fueled public frustration. Families of the victims are still awaiting answers, while international observers, including the British High Commission, are reportedly pressuring India for a preliminary report. The delay is being termed a “criminal lapse” by experts, suggesting it gives parties involved time to influence narratives. As grieving families await closure, the government’s inaction on retrieving key data from the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder has sparked widespread outrage.
