Bihar Election: Bihar final voter list to be released today; 7.35 crore names expected, minor cuts possible

The Election Commission of India is set to release the final voter list for the Bihar Assembly elections after 2 PM today. Estimates indicate that 70–72 lakh names may be removed, largely due to duplicates, deceased voters, or voluntary deletions during verification. The final list is expected to include approximately 7.35 crore voters, potentially reaching up to 7.36–7.40 crore. Earlier, the draft voter list had removed around 65 lakh names, with an additional 3 lakh voluntary deletions during verification. In parallel, political developments are underway in Bihar: Pawan Singh visited Upendra Kushwaha’s residence, accompanied by BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde. Their meeting is being viewed as significant due to Singh’s earlier role in Lok Sabha elections, potentially influencing upcoming political alliances and strategies ahead of the Assembly polls.Regarding voter identification, the Election Commission clarified that although the Supreme Court has recognized Aadhaar as an additional supporting document, it cannot be the sole basis for adding names to the voter list. Only forms submitted with proper documentation will be accepted, ensuring that voters cannot be added solely on the basis of Aadhaar.
