Aarushi and Hemraj Murder case: The 2008 double murder case of 13-year-old Aarushi Talwar and her family’s domestic help Hemraj once again aroused public interest this year. Aarushi’s parents Nupur Talwar and Rajesh Talwar were freed on 16 October, 2017 after four years in jail. The Allahabad High Court cancelled the life sentence handed out to the Talwars by a lower court that had convicted them for the murder of their only child Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, based on circumstantial evidence. In 2015, the Talwars were convicted by a lower court. They then appealed against that verdict in the Allahabad High Court, which rejected the CBI.
