The opposition is leaving no chance to corner the Central government over the National Population Register (NPR). Though the Home Ministry has clarified that the NPR originated in 2011 during UPA's rule and has nothing to do with the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Congress maintains that 2011 NPR was entirely different and the 2020 NPR is intended to lead on to the contentious NRC.
