A pit bull in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi put up a brave fight to protect children by killing a highly venomous King Cobra. The snake had entered the garden of a house in the city's Shiv Ganesh colony where children of the domestic help were playing. 

The children spotted the cobra and started to scream and cry for help. Upon hearing their screams, Jenny, the pit bull tied on the other end of the garden tore the leash and rushed towards the cobra. 

In a video that has now gone viral, the dog could be seen clenching the highly venomous reptile in its mouth and shaking it aggressively. Jenny kept slamming the cobra for a good five minutes until the snake eventually died. 

This is not the first time though that the dog has saved the life of a family member. Jenny's owner, Punjab Singh said that the dog has killed around eight to ten snakes, reported NDTV.

Singh was not home when the incident took place but said that anything could have happened had the snake entered the house. As his home is near the fields, there have been several occasions when snakes have been spotted during monsoons. So far, Jenny has killed around 8 to 10 snakes," he said. 

Narrating the incident that unfolded on Tuesday, the dog owner said, "Yesterday, the house help's children were playing when a black snake appeared. The children screamed and the snake turned to flee. That's when our pit bull noticed it, broke free from its leash and attacked the cobra, killing it."

Singh, who also has other dogs, said they were immensely grateful to Jenny and added that everyone should show more love to animals.

"In today's world, as people drift away from animals, these animals are doing jobs that humans should be doing. I believe that we should show love to animals. People often say negative things about pit bulls, but mine has never harmed anyone," he said. 

"The fight between the dog and the snake lasted for almost five minutes. If Jenny hadn't killed the snake, a tragedy could have occurred. She saved lives and earned our gratitude," he added.
