"Chairman of ISRO, Somanath's salary is ₹ 2.5 lakhs month. Is it right and fair? Let's understand people like him are motivated by factors beyond money. They do what they do for their passion and dedication to science and research, for national pride to contribute to their country, and for personal fulfillment in terms of achieving their purpose. I bow my head to dedicated people like him!" wrote Goneka on X.

Since being shared, the post has amassed over 8 lakh views. It has sparked a debate online with many disagreeing with the salary he receives.

"Sir, genuinely, how much would he get paid in the Private Sector? I’m sure a few crores minimum per year," commented one user on the post.

"Very true.. These great scientist should be rewarded well. This salary is paid to avg 10 years+ experienced IT professional in Bengaluru currently," wrote another user.

While a third differed and wrote, "Don't think public shouldn't comment on his salary. If he's happy, we should be too. All we should do is..give him respect and appreciate his leadership and his work!".

"Not contending if its low or high…but perks would be good (housing + support staff + KV schooling / medical support among others - would added a easy 50% to that)," wrote a fourth.
