5 Arrested After Video Of Fight In Noida Housing Society Goes Viral

The police arrested four Noida society maintenance staffers and a software engineer after the video of a fight between them went viral.

The Noida police arrested four members of a residential society's maintenance crew and a software engineer after a video of a brawl in the housing complex went viral, reported news agency PTI. The incident, which took place on Sunday at Futec Gateway in Sector 75, was captured on video showing the maintenance team thrashing a man with sticks.

In the video, the society's maintenance crew in uniforms, presumably security guards, can be seen thrashing a man till he falls unconscious. They then move on to attack another man, seemingly in an effort to throw him out of the complex.

The exact reason for the clash is still under investigation. However, officials said the arrested software engineer and two of his friends allegedly got drunk and started an argument with the maintenance team. "The police have taken suo motu cognisance of the matter, leading to an FIR being filed under relevant provisions at Sector 113 police station," Additional DCP (Noida) Manish Kumar Mishra was quoted as saying by PTI. "Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case," he added.

An official told PTI that four of the detainees are from the maintenance team, while the fifth is the software engineer from the opposing group.

The man who was thrashed to unconsciousness is now in stable condition, the official noted.

Clashes in Noida housing societies have become common. While residents sometimes fight among themselves, maintenance and security crews clash with residents on other occasions. Videos of several such incidents in the recent past have been going viral on social media. Most of the times, the fights break out over trivial issues, such as parking spot claims, feeding stray animals, etc.
