Dog That Inspired 'Doge' Meme Critically Ill, Netizens Pray For Speedy Recovery
Kabosu became an internet sensation in 2013 based on a photo posted by Sato on her blog in 2010.
Kabosu, a 17-year-old shiba inu dog that rose to fame in 2010 for inspiring the famous "Doge" meme has been diagnosed with leukemia and liver disease, according to its owner, reported The Guardian.
The owner, Atsuko Sato, a kindergarten teacher from Sakura, Japan in a series of post on Instagram said that Kabosu has chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a type of blood and bone marrow cancer, and cholangiohepatitis, an inflammation of the bile ducts, gallbladder and liver tissue.
Kabosu had stopped eating and drinking just before Christmas and was on antibiotics after vets determined she was suffering from inflammation in the digestive system, said Sato, according to The Guardian.

However, in an updated post on December 27, Sato said Kabosu’s appetite had returned and she was drinking water again.
"It’s going to be alright. Because we get our power from all over the world!" read the caption of the post by Santo.
As soon as the news of Kabosu’s improving condition was posted on Instagram, hundreds of well-wishers from across the world welcomed the news and prayed for a speedy recovery.
One of the user wrote, "We believe in you Kabosu! Sending love to you and your family!"
"I will give you my years so that way you can live," wrote another.
"Get well soon Kabosu! We're all rooting for you!" a third wrote.
"I get nervous when I see kabosu new posts. Hope she will be fine and wish a long living life," a fourth wrote.
Kabosu became an internet sensation in 2013 based on a photo posted by Sato on her blog in 2010. The picture shows Kabosu with her paws crossed, slightly side-eyeing the camera with a little smirk.
The recently launched cryptocurrency Dogecoin is also inspired by the meme.
