Live Rodent Crawls Out Of Passenger's Flight Meal, Netizens Quip ‘Mice Need To Travel Too’
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) spokesperson Øystein Schmidt confirmed that following their procedures, the aircraft was switched, and passengers were flown to Málaga, Spain, on a different flight.
A mouse emerged from a passenger's meal on a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight going from Oslo to Málaga on Wednesday, forcing an unscheduled landing in Copenhagen, the airline reported on Friday. The report has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media ranging from humour to downright disgust and shock.
According to a report by the Guardian, a mouse crawled out of a passenger's meal, forcing the flight to make an unscheduled landing. Airlines typically ban rodents on planes due to the risk of them chewing through electrical wires crucial for aircraft operations. “Believe it or not. A lady next to me ... opened her food and a mouse jumped out,” one passenger, Jarle Borrestad was quoted as saying in a social media post.
SAS spokesperson Øystein Schmidt confirmed that following their procedures, the aircraft was switched, and passengers were flown to Málaga, Spain, on a different flight. “This is something that happens extremely rarely,” Schmidt said, adding “We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.”
Previous Incidents In Flights
This isn't the first time a rodent has caused disruption. In 2017, a British Airways flight from Heathrow to San Francisco was delayed for four hours after a mouse was spotted onboard, costing the airline an estimated £250,000 (approx Rs 2.8 crore).
