Live Rodent Crawls Out Of Passenger's Flight Meal, Netizens Quip ‘Mice Need To Travel Too’

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) spokesperson Øystein Schmidt confirmed that following their procedures, the aircraft was switched, and passengers were flown to Málaga, Spain, on a different flight.

A mouse emerged from a passenger's meal on a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight going from Oslo to Málaga on Wednesday, forcing an unscheduled landing in Copenhagen, the airline reported on Friday. The report has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media ranging from humour to downright disgust and shock.

According to a report by the Guardian, a mouse crawled out of a passenger's meal, forcing the flight to make an unscheduled landing. Airlines typically ban rodents on planes due to the risk of them chewing through electrical wires crucial for aircraft operations. “Believe it or not. A lady next to me ... opened her food and a mouse jumped out,”  one passenger, Jarle Borrestad was quoted as saying in a social media post.

SAS spokesperson Øystein Schmidt confirmed that following their procedures, the aircraft was switched, and passengers were flown to Málaga, Spain, on a different flight. “This is something that happens extremely rarely,” Schmidt said, adding “We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.”

Previous Incidents In Flights

This isn't the first time a rodent has caused disruption. In 2017, a British Airways flight from Heathrow to San Francisco was delayed for four hours after a mouse was spotted onboard, costing the airline an estimated £250,000 (approx Rs 2.8 crore).

Not all unscheduled landings result from technical or safety issues. Last year, a United Airlines flight from Houston to Amsterdam was diverted to Chicago due to an unruly business-class passenger upset over his meal choice. In 2017, a Qatar Airways flight made an emergency landing after a woman discovered her husband was having an affair.

Comments On Social Media

This report is garnering several responses on social media. Some of the users are making humourous remarks, whereas others have condemned the services of flights. one of the social media users said, "mice need to travel too … Flight diverted after passenger finds live mouse in meal."

Another user expressed disgust stating, "The headline kept getting worse after each word. Flight diverted. Mouse in meal. MOUSE WAS ALIVE."

The next one remarked, "A flyer informed the flight crew That she found a large mouse in her stew. Said the steward, "Don't shout Or wave it about, Or the rest will be wanting one too!"
