Ingredients

  • 500 Gram Boneless Meat (chicken or mutton)
  • 1 Cup Wheat (broken wheat or daliya)
  • 1 Cup Yellow Moong Dal
  • 0.5 Cup Chana Dal
  • 0.5 Cup Toor Dal
  • 2 Piece Onion (finely sliced)
  • 3 Piece Green Chilly (chopped)
  • 2 Tablespoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 2 Teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 4 Tablespoon Ghee or Oil
  • 2 Piece Bay Leaf
  • 4 Piece Clove
  • 2 Piece Cardamom Pods
  • 1 Piece Cinnamon Stick
  • Fresh Coriander
  • Salt
  • Lemon
  • Fried Onion (for garnishing)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Take a large pot and add meat with water in it. Let it cook until the meat becomes tender. A pressure cooker can also be used to speed up the process.

Step 2

Take a separate pan and cook together wheat and lentils in water till they become mushy. Once they're cooked, blend them in a mixture.

Step 3

Take a pan and heat oil or ghee in it. Add in the whole spices and saute for a while. Add the onions to the pan and wait for them to become golden brown.

Step 4

Add ginger garlic paste and green chillies and saute for a while. Once done, add in garam masala powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook everything together for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 5

Then, add the cooked meat and the stock into the pan. Add in the cooked lentil and wheat as well. Stir everything well.

Step 6

Let the Haleem be on simmer for a while. Keep on stirring occasionally to avoid sticking. if the mixture becomes too thick, then adjust the consistency by adding water or chicken stock to it.

Step 7

Once you get the desired consistency, garnish the Haleem with fresh coriander, fried onions, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
