'They Made It Debt-Ridden': Telangana Guv Tamilisai Criticizes Previous Govt During Opening Of Budget Session

Addressing a joint session of legislature on opening day of Budget session, Governor Tamilisai conveyed the government's indebtedness to Sonia Gandhi for her pivotal role in the historic process.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday said that the people of Telangana gave a rich state to the previous government but it handed over a debt-ridden state to the present regime. The Governor without naming the parties made the statement while addressing a joint session of legislature on the opening day of the Budget session. The Governor also said that the government was committed to restoring financial discipline and transparency. 

According to PTI, Tamilisai said, "The people of Telangana had handed over a rich state to the previous government and after ten years, they have handed over a debt-ridden state to us."

Soundararajan stated that in the recent assembly elections, the people expressed a desire for freedom, democracy and governance aligned with their aspirations. The Congress administration extended gratitude to all political parties and leaders instrumental in the formation of Telangana and acknowledged the contributions of the erstwhile UPA government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the state's formation.

The governor conveyed the government's indebtedness to Sonia Gandhi for her pivotal role in the historic process.

Furthermore, the governor announced the forthcoming implementation of two additional election promises of the government including providing LPG cylinders to economically disadvantaged individuals for Rs 500 and granting 200 units of free electricity. She reiterated the government's commitment to fulfilling promises made to various segments of society, including farmers, youth, SCs, STs, BCs, and Minority communities.

The state government aims to establish internet access as a fundamental right to ensure universal access to digital infrastructure, she said adding that the initiative aims to position Hyderabad and Telangana as the nation's hub for artificial intelligence (AI).

"One of the most significant forthcoming initiatives of this government would be to introduce the internet as a basic right," the governor said, as per PTI.
