Vibrant Gujarat Summit: Tata To Set Up Semiconductor Factory In Dholera, N. Chandrasekaran Says

Vibrant Gujarat 2024: Chandrasekaran noted, "Sanand is becoming home for our EV tech. We expanded capacity to meet growing demand for EVs."

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, during his address at Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, disclosed the imminent finalisation of plans for a semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat. The commissioning of this unit is expected to commence in 2024, according to Chandrasekaran's announcement at a summit. He emphasised Tata's dedication to advancing technological infrastructure in the region, highlighting ongoing negotiations and plans for work initiation in the coming year.

In addition to the semiconductor unit, Chandrasekaran revealed ambitious intentions to commence construction on a 20-gigawatt battery storage factory in Gujarat within the next few months. This strategic move aligns with Tata's broader vision to contribute significantly to the nation's electric vehicle (EV) supply chain.

In June, the company had inked a memorandum of understanding for a lithium-ion cell factory, entailing an investment of approximately 130 billion rupees ($1.58 billion). The latest initiative involves Tata's unit Agratas Energy Storage Solutions and the Gujarat government, with the plant situated in Sanand, northern Gujarat. Construction is projected to kick off in less than three years.

Underlining Tata's dedication to EV technology, Chandrasekaran noted, "Sanand is becoming home for our EV tech. We expanded capacity to meet growing demand for EVs."

Providing updates on another major project, the chairman shared details about the ongoing construction of the C295 defence aircraft in Baroda, with subsequent operations planned in Dholera. Chandrasekaran expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating, "Work is going on in full swing."

Recognising Gujarat's special significance to the Tata Group, Chandrasekaran highlighted the company's eight-decade presence in the state since 1939, starting with Tata Chemicals. Currently, 21 Tata Group companies operate in Gujarat, collectively employing over 50,000 individuals.

The chairman also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership, attributing the consistent development of Gujarat to Modi's excellence. Chandrasekaran asserted, "The impact of eco-development has also resulted in tremendous social development. Gujarat clearly has established itself as the gateway to the future of India."
