Google Doodle Today: Google has been celebrating the various sports and disciplines at the Paris Games 2024 with fun Doodles throughout the competition so far. On August 1, Thursday, the Search giant dedicated its Doodle to the talented surfers competing in the Olympic Games. This special edition, featuring a cartoon of a bird surfing on a leaf, is visible in over 100 countries, including India.
Google's latest Doodle comes at a time when the Olympics surfing competition is garnering a lot of attention around the world, owing to a dangerous turn of weather at the location as well as a rather surreal photo surfer Gabriel Medina, who seems to be frozen in time. Read on to check out that photo below.

Continuing the theme of birds as athletes, the Doodle showcases a bird riding waves inside a typically Parisian fountain. As a fun twist, a turtle appears from below the leaf, much to the shock of the bird, but it manages to hold on to its balance with medal-winning grace.
Surfing At Paris Games 2024
Surfing events at the 2024 Summer Olympics are currently underway from July 27 to August 5 at the Teahupoʻo reef pass in Tahiti. This location marks a historic milestone as the farthest distance a medal competition has ever been held from the host city.
A total of 48 athletes, with 24 men and 24 women, are competing in the shortboard events, an increase of eight participants from the Tokyo 2020 Games. However, the competition has faced significant disruptions due to adverse weather conditions.
On July 29, hazardous weather forced the cancellation of the women's third round after round three of the men's shortboard event had concluded. Rough seas persisted for the next two days, preventing the continuation of the women's round and postponing all final events. Organisers are closely monitoring the weather and aim to reschedule the remaining events by August 5, conditions permitting.
Despite these setbacks, the athletes remain hopeful for favourable weather to complete the competition successfully.
