Google Play has unveiled its "Best of 2024" awards for India, celebrating the top apps and games available on the platform, as well as the talented developers behind them. This year’s list highlights a wide range of innovative apps designed to meet various needs, such as fashion styling, health, expense management, and news. Impressively, Indian developers claimed the majority of the spotlight, with 5 out of the 7 winners in the "Best of Play 2024 India" apps category coming from local companies, showcasing the strength of India's innovation ecosystem.
AI is playing a key role in shaping the future of mobile apps, and India is leading the way in this transformation. The country has become the global leader in AI-based mobile app downloads, accounting for a remarkable 21 per cent of the total downloads worldwide this year. Indian developers are embracing AI in full force, with nearly 1,000 apps and games in the country incorporating artificial intelligence into their features, reflecting India’s growing influence in the global tech landscape.

Google Play Best Of 2024 Awards: Best App

Sony LIV: Sports & Ent secured the Best for Large Screens award for providing a high-quality, immersive viewing experience across bigger screen devices like tablets to its users.
Google Play Best Of 2024 Awards: Best Game
The gaming industry in India continues to flourish, with the country adding 23 million new gamers in FY24, bringing the total to an impressive 590 million. India has now become the second-largest market globally for mobile gaming downloads, with players increasing their weekly playtime by 30 per cent on average.
"Squad Busters," the recipient of the "Best Game" award, showcases India's growing affinity for fast-paced, easy-to-pick-up multiplayer games that focus on social engagement. Many of the top games this year have emphasised localisation, blending Indian storylines, characters, and cultural elements into their gameplay.
A prime example is SuperGaming's "Indus Battle Royale," which clinched the "Best Made in India" award for the second year in a row. The game stands out for its seamless incorporation of Indian visuals and narrative elements into the popular Battle Royale genre.
BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), was awarded the title of "Best Ongoing" game, kept players engaged through consistent updates infused with India-centric content. These updates included cricket-inspired themes, festive celebrations, and collaborations with popular Indian celebrities, making the game resonate deeply with its local audience.
The "Best Indie" award went to Bloom, a standout title praised for its inventive puzzle mechanics and a level maker feature, enabling players to unleash their creativity. Meanwhile, Bullet Echo earned recognition as the "Best Pick Up & Play" game, delivering quick and captivating gameplay tailored for on-the-go entertainment.
Additional winners included Clash of Clans for "Best Multi-device Game," Yes, Your Grace for "Best Story," Zombie Sniper War 3 - Fire FPS for "Best on Play Pass," and Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures for "Best Game for Google Play Games on PC."
