Samsung Is Killing DeX For Windows App With One UI 7 Update, Users Might Not Be Able Connect Smartphones To PC & TVs

Samsung tablet users can rest easy, as DeX mode on these devices will remain unaffected by the upcoming changes.

Samsung's upcoming One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, promises a host of visual enhancements and performance improvements. While the company has not officially revealed much about the new interface, numerous leaks have surfaced, showcasing redesigned app icons and other aesthetic updates. However, alongside these improvements, Samsung is making some changes that could impact user experience.

According to information on Samsung's UK website, the DeX app for Windows will no longer be supported with the rollout of One UI 7. This means Windows users will lose the ability to connect their Galaxy devices to PCs for a desktop-like experience. Despite this change, the DeX feature itself is not being discontinued—it will remain available on compatible devices and continue to function in other scenarios.

DeX Is Going Away? If Yes Then What's The Alternative?

Samsung tablet users can rest easy, as DeX mode on these devices will remain unaffected by the upcoming changes. First introduced in 2017, Samsung DeX enables users to connect their phones or tablets via wired or wireless methods to PCs, monitors, or TVs, providing a desktop-like interface for enhanced productivity. While support for the DeX Windows app is being discontinued, the feature itself remains a valuable tool for many users.

Instead of relying on the DeX app for Windows, Samsung is urging users to transition to Microsoft's Link to Windows feature. While not as seamless as DeX, Link to Windows offers broader compatibility, working across a wide range of modern Android devices rather than being exclusive to Samsung’s ecosystem. Moreover, Microsoft’s integration is considered more polished and user-friendly compared to Samsung’s somewhat clunky solution.

In addition to these changes, Samsung has confirmed another feature is being retired. Starting with the rollout of One UI 7, users will no longer be able to download Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store, marking another shift in the user experience.
