OnePlus Promises 4 Major Android Updates For Select Models Starting 2023
OnePlus has joined the likes of Samsung and has announced Android software upgrades for four years, up from the previously promised three years of major upgrades.

Now, handset maker OnePlus has joined the bandwagon of Samsung and has announced Android software upgrades for four years, up from the previously promised three years of major upgrades.

The smartphone maker has confirmed that it will provide four years of major OxygenOS updates, which is OnePlus' proprietary Android custom skin, starting 2023. OnePlus has noted that the extended update programme will kick off next year, but it is yet to announce the OnePlus smartphone models which will support the promised Android support programme. It is also not clear if the new software update programme will be applicable to OnePlus Nord lineup of phones.
"Before the OEF (open ears forum), we also had the chance to meet up with people from the media for a roundtable on OxygenOS 13. At this event we reaffirmed our commitment to elevate the smartphone usage experience, by sharing a piece of news I’m now thrilled to announce to you: Starting from 2023, we’ll be offering four generations of OxygenOS and five years of security updates on selected devices," the company said in a statement.

Since OnePlus has mentioned that the new software programme will be effective starting in 2023, the upcoming flagship OnePlus 11 lineup, which is expected to launch early next year, may be among the first OnePlus models to receive four major OxygenOS updates. OnePlus 11 may also launch with Android 13 out of the box, therefore the device could witness its last major OxygenOS update take it to Android 17.
