Adoption Of Foldables More Than Doubled YoY Amid Increasing Enterprise Demand: Samsung
Chinese handset makers Oppo and Vivo have marked their foray into the segment, thus, helping the foldable market move in the right direction.
Samsung has said the growth of foldables Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold for enterprise use more than doubled year on year. As enterprises shift towards work-from-anywhere policies, they are looking for new ways to maximise productivity.
Samsung dominated the market in foldable phones during H1 2022, accounting for 62 per cent of the market according to Counterpoint’s Foldable Smartphone Tracker. China's Huawei and Oppo came in a distant second and third in the race. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which was launched in August, is Samsung’s fourth-generation foldable smartphone.
While the world of foldable smartphones is still new, Chinese handset makers Oppo and Vivo have marked their foray into the segment, thus, helping the foldable market move in the right direction.
Earlier in November, South Korean tech giant Samsung in a meeting to discuss its foldable smartphone strategy mentioned that it expects rival Apple to foray into the foldable segment by 2024, a report by TheElec said.
Foldable smartphone shipments are expected to reach 16 million units worldwide -- an increase of 73 per cent year on year -- as the form factor is rapidly becoming mainstream. Shipments of foldables are expected to grow to 26 million units in 2023 as the ease of multitasking on a large screen coupled with app optimisations for foldable devices, are helping drive adoption among enterprise users, said a report by Counterpoint Research.
“Samsung Galaxy foldable smartphones were created to open up opportunities for new ways to work and explore creativity,” said KC Choi, EVP and Head of Global Mobile B2B Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics, said in a statement.
To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 (read our review here) was unveiled in India in August. Samsung said it has used Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the rear glass and cover screen for protection along with an Armour aluminium frame and hinge. The latest Galaxy Z series devices are the toughest foldables ever made, Samsung also claimed.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with the same 4400mAh battery that we also saw in the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, there has been an upgrade in charging speeds: the new model comes with support for faster 25W wired charging, which is claimed to reach full battery from 0 in 1.5 hours.
