iPhone 16 Models May Bring This Big Design Change. Know Everything Here

Despite the promising prospects of this revolutionary design, there are significant challenges to overcome.

Apple is set to unveil the purported iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max this fall, and there is a lot of buzz surrounding the Pro models and a substantial increase in their display size. A recent report from the supply chain by The Elec (via 9To5Mac) suggests that Apple is likely to introduce an innovative technology known as "Border Reduction Structure" (BRS) to accomplish this advancement in display.

What To Expect From iPhone 16 Pro Models

The innovative BRS technology aims to reduce the bezels on the Apple iPhone 16 Pro models, heralding a new era of streamlined design. Through the implementation of an advanced under-display system, Apple intends to significantly slim down the bezels, a development expected to redefine the visual experience for users.

Despite the promising prospects of this revolutionary design, there are significant challenges to overcome.

Key suppliers, including industry giants such as LG Display and Samsung Display, are encountering difficulties in meeting Apple's stringent production requirements. The complexity arises from the implementation of the BRS technology, which requires precise placement of circuits beneath the bezel and intricate wiring configurations. These challenges highlight the meticulous attention to detail required to bring this innovative vision to reality.

The report further added that no company has yet achieved production rates that meet Apple's stringent standards. Despite these challenges, Samsung Display is anticipated to supply all four OLEDs for the iPhone 16 Series, while LG Display intends to contribute to the OLED supply for the Pro and Pro Max variants.

Furthermore, Chinese display giant BOE is scheduled to provide OLEDs for the lower-tier iPhone models. These arrangements highlight the collaborative efforts among key suppliers to support Apple's ambitious production goals.

There are concerns about potential overheating problems stemming from the wiring technique used in BRS technology. Nonetheless, reports suggest that Apple and its suppliers have addressed these concerns by implementing innovative heat-controlled dissipation technologies.

Although precise specifications regarding the degree of bezel reduction are yet to be revealed, there is widespread speculation that the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature larger displays without a substantial increase in overall device dimensions. These anticipated improvements follow the footsteps of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which already exhibited reduced borders, as revealed via prior leaks.
