Google Pixel Watch To Come With Its Own Companion App?
The latest leak also means that the first Google Pixel Watch will not use the Wear OS companion app, and instead use its own dedicated app.
The yet-to-be-launched Google Pixel Watch will have its own companion app, purportedly the "Google Pixel Watch app", similar to what we have seen Samsung and Apple do with the Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch, according to a new settings page for “Smart Unlock" spotted by 9to5Google in an APK teardown of the Google Play Services beta version 22.22. The new teased page directly makes reference to the Google Pixel Watch, and also mentions the “Google Pixel Watch App”.
Previously in January this year, the company had announced that devices running Wear OS 3 would soon be capable of unlocking Android smartphones and tablets and even the Chromebook. By mentioning that it would work with “eligible Wear OS 3 devices”, Google made it seem likely that this revamped unlocking feature would debut on the (then-unannounced) Pixel Watch, the 9to5Google report added.
The latest leak also means that the first Google Pixel Watch will not use the Wear OS companion app, and instead use its own dedicated app.
However, it should be noted that this information should be taken with a pinch of salt as with most APK teardowns there is no surety that the feature will see the light of the day. And, this suggests that we can just expect the feature.
Meanwhile, after almost five years of leaks and rumours, Google announced the Pixel Watch at the Google I/O conference last month. Google finally announced its Pixel Watch which is slated to arrive alongside the Pixel 7 smartphone later this fall. The company also showcased its first Android tablet. The Pixel Watch will come with a circular, domed design with a tactile crown and a side button.
