Apple May Soon Release Wireless Charging Appliances For Its Devices: Report
Apple has some big plans for wireless charging, a new report suggests.
New Delhi: In September 2017, Apple had announced AirPower, which is an unreleased, wireless charging mat developed by the tech giant, designed to charge up to three devices simultaneously, supporting two Qi devices, such as an iPhone and AirPods, and an Apple Watch. Though it was slated to be released in early 2018, Apple announced the cancellation of its release in March 2019, thwarting all hopes of getting a wireless charger from Apple. However, talks about the device being released soon are doing the rounds, according to media reports.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was quoted as saying in his weekly newsletter that Apple has some big plans for wireless charging, according to media reports. Quoting him, the reports said, "I do think Apple is still working on some sort of multi-device charger that it intends to eventually release."
Gurman noted that Apple has plans to work on short and long-distance wireless charging devices, the reports stated. He said in the newsletter that Apple wants to imagine a future where the company's major devices can charge each other, according to reports. "Imagine an iPad charging an iPhone and then that iPhone charging AirPods or an Apple Watch," the reports quoted Gruman as saying.
Apple is one of the few companies to have refrained from reverse wireless charging through its devices. Reverse wireless charging refers to the ability of a wireless charging-capable phone or device to act as the charging station and be used to charge another wireless device. Apple's MagSafe charging, which works with iPhone and AirPods, is relatively new.
When Apple announced the cancellation of AirPower's release in 2019, the company said it continued to believe the future is wireless and that it is committed to push the wireless experience forward.
Apple has not commented anything related to the release of wireless chargers of late.
