5G Will Work On All Supported Samsung Smartphones By Mid-November In India, Company Confirms

Samsung India on Wednesday said it will be rolling out updates across all its 5G devices by the middle of November.

The wait for 5G services on supported Samsung smartphones seems to be over as the South Korean tech giant on Wednesday said it will be rolling out updates across all its 5G devices by the middle of November 2022. Samsung India also said it is closely working with telecom operators in the country for rolling out the Over The Air (OTA) updates.

"Samsung has pioneered 5G technology development since 2009 and took the leading role in standardizing 5G technology globally. In India, Samsung has the widest portfolio of 5G devices. We are working closely with our operator partners and are committed to rolling out OTA updates across all our 5G devices by mid-November 2022, enabling Indian consumers to experience 5G seamlessly," a Samsung India spokesperson told ABP Live in a statement.

This comes after Apple said earlier in a statement that it is working with carrier partners in India to offer the “best 5G experience” to iOS users “as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance is completed.”

This comes a day after a report said that the Indian government is likely to push premium smartphone brands like Apple and Samsung to speed up rolling out updates to support 5G airwaves in their handsets.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in India on October 1 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 amid much fanfare with one of the leading telcos Bharti Airtel announcing the launch of 5G in eight Indian cities on the same day. However, according to Airtel, Apple's latest top-tier iPhone 14 series and Samsung's flagship Galaxy S22 line currently does not support 5G airwaves.

To recall, Bharti Airtel confirmed at the sixth edition of India Mobile Congress 2022 that it is launching its 5G services in the country, starting with select cities. The telecom major has confirmed that it will roll out 5G in eight cities starting October 1. Airtel is launching 5G telecom services in eight cities, which also includes four metro cities today and the rollout of services would cover the entire country by March 2024, said company chairperson Sunil Bharti Mittal at the IMC 2022 in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Reliance Jio is providing unlimited 5G data during the beta trial to select customers having a 5G smartphone. At present, 5G models of Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and OnePlus are compatible with Airtel 5G Plus service.
