Elon Musk Posts 'Mute' Emoji Minutes After Twitter CEO Says 'Tune Out The Noise'. Twitter Abuzz With Speculations

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal said Monday Elon Musk, 'biggest shareholder' of Twitter, would not be joining the company's board, days after announcing that he will be on board from April 9.

New Delhi: Twitter Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Parag Agrawal issued a statement Monday, saying billionaire investor Elon Musk would not be joining the company's board. Days before, Twitter had announced that the Tesla Inc CEO, who is now its "biggest shareholder", will join the board from April 9.

"...but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board," Agrawal tweeted, sharing a screenshot of his "brief note" that he said he sent to the company on the decision.

Just around an hour after the Twitter CEO shared the note, Elon Musk took to Twitter to post an emoji, which usually denotes 'to cover your mouth', or 'not to speak', or 'to mute'.

His tweet has generated a lot of buzz, with people speculating on what he may have meant. The post had already been shared nearly 7,000 times and seen over 65 thousand likes at the time of writing.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk, 50, took a 9.2 per cent stake in Twitter Inc, a week after hinting that he might enter the social media industry. Twitter shares surged after his entry.

Prior to that, Musk had posted a Twitter poll last month, asking his more than 80 million followers whether the platform adheres to free speech. With 70 per cent saying no, he asked if a new social media site was needed, and also said that he was giving "serious thought" to starting his own platform.

Soon after picking up stakes in the company, Musk posted another Twitter poll, asking users if they wanted an 'edit' button.

Even Parag Agrawal responded to the tweet, and posted: "The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully."

On April 10, Musk took to the microblogging site to share his opinion on Twitter Blue, and said everyone who signs up for it should get an authentication checkmark.

He also said he turned off Twitter Blue's 'edit tweet feature' because it is "not very useful", and that he found the 'Reader' bar that now shows up below every post "annoying".
