Farmer representatives claimed that young crops of both green gram and black gram have been washed away after being submerged under water due to incessant rains.

In Nagapattinam district over 10,000 hectares of farmland have been covered by both green gram and black gram. However, there is no official information about the crop damage in the district but the farmers claim that the crop in the complete region has been damaged, said The Hindu report.

The farmers' representatives in the Cauvery Delta region demand the government provide seeds at subsidised rates again to the affected farmers to compensate for the loss to an extent.
